Los Angeles, Calif., Mar 18, 2010 / 11:34 pm (CNA).- On Wednesday, the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles reported the approval of the election of Mary Douglas Glasspool as their first openly partnered lesbian assistant bishop. The decision drew sharply contrasting reactions from those within the Episcopal community, including dissatisfaction from the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.
“Unfortunately,” he [Bishop David C. Anderson, President and CEO of the American Anglican Council] continued, “this comes as no surprise because The Episcopal Church, at its General Convention this summer, voted in favor of allowing dioceses to determine whether they will conduct same sex blessings using whatever rites they deem appropriate. Even if The Episcopal Church should eventually decide to sign an Anglican Covenant, it has shown time and time again that it will not abide by traditional Christian and Anglican Communion teaching on marriage and sexuality.”
[Jeff] Walton [director of the Institute on Religion and Democracy's Anglican Action Program] also noted that “Glasspool's election and consecration comes at the same time as the Episcopal Church reports steep declines in attendance. Interestingly, the traditionalist Anglican Church in North America (AC-NA) has added 100 new congregations since July.”
Note: The Anglican Church in North America (AC-NA) is different from The Anglican Church in America (ACA). These are two totally different Communions.
The ACA is in the final stages of converting en mass to Catholicism... to include thousands of laity, their own bishops, clergy, buildings and even a cathedral.
God willing, the AC-NA will follow suit.

Not quite, Cavey. I know a few of these folks and some of the more informed and intelligent "watchers" of the Continuing Anglican Churches. It seems that many, perhaps even a majority, of the clergy, are pro-union with Rome. Not so the laity. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I have heard (no, I cannot prove this) that only a minority of the laity might go with their pro-unionist TAC and ACA clergy.
The best part of Anglicanorum Coetibus, as I perceive it, is the administrative mechanism (OK, pastoral approach) that will allow future (re)unions with Rome OVER THE LONG TERM.
The other group most likely to come over to Rome via Anglicanorum Coetibus is a branch of the UK's Anglo-Catholics who are called Anglo-Papalists. Interestingly, the APs customarily celebrate the N.O.M. rather than a specifically Anglican liturgy, but in a much more sacred fashion than do our obviously liberal, RC parishes.
I humbly predict that Cardinal Mahony will welcome her with open arms & maybe even attend her ordination/installation.
