From The Good Folks Who Want To Run The American Automobile Industry
Thought you'd like to know Who's driving what?

POLITICO wondered -- what's in the driveways of White House aides? A lot of foreign cars, as it turns out.

A survey of West Executive Drive, where White House staffers park, revealed only five American cars out of 23. The lot was sprinkled with BMWs, Mercedes, Hondas, Toyotas, Saabs, Audis, Volkswagens and a Volvo.

Timothy Geithner owns a 2008 Acura TSX and once owned a 1999 Honda Accord, as well as a 2002 Acura MDX.

Larry Summers [Director of the White House's National Economic Council] owns a 1995 Mazda Protégé.

Peter Orszag [Director of the Office of Management and Budget] owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey and a 2004 Volvo S60.

"Climate czar" Carol Browner has recently said she doesn't own an automobile, although she used to own a 1999 Saab 9-5 SE.

The vice president's economist Jared Bernstein owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey.

Obama's economic adviser Austan Goolsbee owns a 2004 Toyota Highlander.

I love it. And this jackass hasn't even hit 100 days yet.

Here's some of the article from Human Events; (Emphasis mine) The Subprime Presidency
by Thomas P. Kilgannon

Dulles, Virginia -- This week’s G-20 summit may be one of America’s most embarrassing moments since President Barack Obama gave 25 DVDs and a bag of Jiffy Pop to Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Granted, that was only a few weeks ago, but when Obama presented the department store gift set as a symbol of our national friendship, Americans cringed. At the time, we believed it to be thoughtless. Now we realize it was all we could afford.

That point is not lost on other world leaders. In these past few weeks, communists and socialists have taken to lecturing Americans about our irresponsible fiscal behavior. Since taking office, Obama has flooded the U.S. economy with red ink and is twisting G-20 arms to do the same. “The United States is ready to lead, and we call upon our partners to join us with a sense of urgency and common purpose,” the President wrote in a newspaper column distributed across the globe. Europeans, who only a year ago worshipped Obama, now are beginning to see him as a false prophet.

Mirek Topolánek, President of the European Union and the Czech Prime Minister, condemned Obamanomics, saying it has America on “the way to hell.” In Germany, Prime Minister Angela Merkel has refused Obama’s advice for more government spending. Her beliefs were recently echoed by Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank, who flatly rejected Obama’s fixation for fiscal stimulus. “The expectation,” he warned, “that we could neutralise this synchronised recession through short-term fiscal policy measures is false. We should not even try.”
I Knew The Liberal Elite Was Gaga Over Him...
But not this bad

Here's a bit of timely commentary from The Washington Examiner; (Emphasis mine) Beware the cult of Obama
By Gene Healy

You’ve met them. They may be friends of yours, or family members. You may even be one of them (in which case you’ll hate this column). I’m referring to those who’ve heard the Call of Obama.

Tucker Carlson compares it to a dog whistle: Inaudible to most, but irresistible to those who can hear it.

Obama "walks into a room and you want to follow him somewhere, anywhere," George Clooney gushed to Charlie Rose.

"I’ll collect paper cups off the ground to make [Obama’s] pathway clear,” Halle Berry recently told the Philadelphia Daily News, “I’ll do whatever he says.” (Does Michelle know about this?)

Hollywood stars aren’t known for their political wisdom. More disturbing is how starstruck the mainstream media has become. Hardball host Chris Matthews isn’t the only one who gets a “thrill” up his leg at the very thought of our new president.

Last summer, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford wrote that "Many spiritually advanced people I know … identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who … can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet."
("Lightworker. Is that anything like "Lightbearer"?)

The Politico recently ran a 900-word article entitled "The Power of Obama's Hand," reverentially describing how the president "uses touch to control and console simultaneously," laying hands on supporters and opponents alike.

And in February, author Judith Warner used her New York Times blog to confess that “The other night I dreamt of Barack Obama. He was taking a shower right when I needed to get into the bathroom to shave my legs.”

Instead of keeping that information to herself, Warner “launched an email inquiry,” which revealed that “many women—not too surprisingly—were dreaming about sex with the president.” Those of us who like to point out that the Emperor has no clothes now have to worry that when we do, we may give rise to a new round of lurid cougar fantasies.
(That's just creepy.)
Earth Hour 2010
"I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.... and we're just the guys to do it. "

I'm feeling real bad about not doing my fair share in voicing my environmental concerns regarding this past weekends 'Earth Hour' orgy of pretentiousness. I really do. I figure such a moronic act of self-righteousness deserves an equally moronic answer of indifference. There are some statements where the reply of an extended arm with a middle digit pointed skyward, is just grossly insufficient. Appropriate yes, but insufficient none-the-less. We can do better.

So here is my proposal. Party on my front lawn next year, hell, multiple parties, on multiple lawns throughout the nation. We can call it 'Resource Consumption' Night or something else with an air of arrogant piety. We can have a nice self-absorbed evening of fun and sleep well at night knowing we've done less damage to the environment than our counterparts on the Left.

First off, we'll need to see what we are doing and waste as much energy as we can doing it, so I'll be hiring one of the local movie lighting companies to illuminate my front lawn. My one provision will be that they will be required to use the old incandescent light bulbs of yore. We can watch the meter on the side of my house spin like Clark Griswalds at Christmastime taking bet's where it'll stop. Yet despite all this gratuitous waste, we will still be able to sleep sound knowing that we used less energy that your average craptastic piece of trash coming out of Hollywood these days.

Next, we'll have a bonfire. I know, we already have more lighting than a night game at Yankee Stadium, but what better way to create a 'Cumbayah, look at me...' ambiance, than a good old fashion bonfire. Of course, this won't be any regular bonfire, I mean, this party is about tweeking the Environmental Left. I figure huge truck tires kindled with styrofoam and ignited with gasoline would insult their pagan sensibilities perfectly. Once again, we can all sleep well knowing that we are contaminating the air less than Eco-hero John Travolta does, on his frequent 2 passenger hops that he takes, in his personal 150 passenger Boing 747.

We'll have to eat, so I'm figuring the stink a bunch of cavedwellers can muster from an evening of Guinness and White Castle hamburgers will permeate the air nicely. Again, our little heads can hit the pillow without an ounce of guilt, knowing that our noxious 'afterfumes' will be doing the atmosphere no worse than the 4 Buses, 3 semi's and various other vehicles that accompany Sheryl Crow on her 'Stop Global Warming' tour stops. Just remember, with all that Guinness and White Castle, don't expect Sheryl to, 'spare a square' . I hear she is pretty chincy in that department. Must get pretty itchy saving the rain forests of the world on just one square of T-P.

Capping the evening off, we can blow off a few rounds with our favorite firearms. Don't ask me how this will give us an environmentally guilt-free sleep, but this party is mainly about pissing off liberals. What better way is there to accomplish that, than showing off ones love of the Second Amendment?

Finally, bring the kiddies, the more the better! What better way to thumb your nose at an eco-fanatic than by showing a strong presence of big, 'breeder' sized families? If you have a family as large as mine, a night like this makes all the dirty looks we get from the Ben 'n Jerry's crowd worth it! Oh, and don't forget to bring plenty of toy guns for your little planet killers to play with. The sight of kids playing with toy guns will really take the jam out of their organic jelly donuts. And once again, sleep well knowing that your ever-growing brood is doing far less harm to the planet than all the residual damage that birth control has done to the environment(strange how this never comes up in their agenda to purify the world) and that a family of nine like mine, uses a quarter less the power to run our homes than it does to run the home of the Guru of Global Warming Awareness, Al Gore.

So there you have it. My response to all of the hypocrites, who have all of the answers to the world problems and their ridiculous gestures of righteous indignation. Who's with me next year?

The Oscama Administration wants it all, and right this minute.

What I wouldn't give to own even one voting share of stock in General Motors today. Barack Obama would be in my litigical crosshairs for voilation of the constitution and abuse of his office. Please some lifelong GM employee take them court over this crap. IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

I guess we just don't friggin' care anymore as long as we get out 3 squares, and can hold on to our home. Where is the outrage? Can the unions really be behind this? I mean having government on your side against evil management is one thing, but now government is evil management. What are you going to do when they tell you that all of you will have to take big cuts in wages, benefits, and available positions. It will happen because if anything sales will go down big time now. If I were considering purchasing a vehicle do I want one that is backed by the US Government....HELL NO! The government has not been held accountable for that last 60 years, and who will you complain to, governments own consumer affairs. HAHAHAHA!!

What a bunch of dolts we have become, Mr. Wagoner just got a get out of jail free card at the cost of the GM company, shareholders, brand, and employees. Thank you Obama!

So far we have financial institutions and automotive manufacturers, next on the horizon will be gas and oil companies, then electric companies, hospitals and airlines. Just wait until what you see coming out of the G20 summit!

Sooner or later they will come for your industry too, and then you can hand it over and play nice so you get your "FAIR" allotment of provisions, while Obama chants, "Veni, Vidi, Vici!"

Following atheist trend, Britons seek 'de-baptism'
Breitbart.com

29 March 2009

More than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded "certificates of de-baptism" from the Internet to renounce their Christian faith.
The initiative launched by a group called the National Secular Society (NSS) follows atheist campaigns here and elsewhere, including a London bus poster which triggered protests by proclaiming "There's probably no God." (boy...now there's one argument you better be right about!)

"We now produce a certificate on parchment and we have sold 1,500 units at three pounds (4.35 dollars, 3.20 euros) a pop," said NSS president Terry Sanderson, 58.

John Hunt, a 58-year-old from London and one of the first to try to be "de-baptised," held that he was too young to make any decision when he was christened at five months old.
The male nurse said he approached the Church of England to ask it to remove his name. "They said they had sought legal advice and that I should place an announcement in the London Gazette," said Hunt, referring to one of the official journals of record of the British government.
So that's what he did -- his notice of renouncement was published in the Gazette in May 2008 and other Britons have followed suit.

Michael Evans, 66, branded baptising children as "a form of child abuse" -- and said that when he complained to the church where he was christened he was told to contact the European Court of Human Rights. ...

It's language like what I highlighted which keeps me from dismissing crap like this as just another limp-wrist, drama queen, hissy fit snit. I'm sure there is an agenda driven group somewhere, poised to jump on an angle like this and defend any baby being presented for Baptism as an ACLU lawyer would defend a guest at Gitmo from a date with a waterboard.

Ohhh, that's what He is! Thirty U.S. dioceses now participating in clergy leadership program

Exton, Pa., Mar 29, 2009 / 06:16 pm (
CNA).- The Catholic Leadership Institute has announced... that thirty U.S. dioceses have now partnered with the institute in its clergy leadership development program.

According to a February CLI statement, the program uses Jesus Christ as the “ultimate shepherd” in a curriculum designed to help clergy overcome contemporary challenges...
I like this program. Anything that keeps priests from becoming Eucharistic sperm donors (à la Mahony) is OK in my book.

But a bit of background... between the pain-killers (torn calf muscle) doing a number on me, and it raining in buckets, I had to stay local for Mass yesterday. I literally had to do a double-take when I heard Christ as described as a "super hero" at one of the local Self-Worshippitoria. I wonder if the missal will now come in comic book form?

And predictably, there was much wailing, gnashing of teeth and beating of breastesess concerning the "economic catastrophe" taking place and how our civilization was collapsing around us.

Funny, I don't recall seeing any horse and buggies or bicycles in the parking lot. In fact, there were more high-end automobiles than a Cadillac dealership.

The Obama echoing kinda fell on deaf ears.

A Liberal Risks It All
Ya gotta admit it, this took guts

Peter Viereck, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and professor, wrote in 1959 that "anti-Catholicism is the anti-Semitism of the [liberal] intellectual elite".

Fifty years later, that maxim still holds true.

However limited and conditional it may be, I just can't help but wonder if Edward Green (senior research scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health) hasn't just committed professional suicide.

Here's a bit of the article from The Washington Post; (Emphasis mine) The Pope May Be Right
By Edward C. Green

When Pope Benedict XVI commented this month that condom distribution isn't helping, and may be worsening, the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa, he set off a firestorm of protest. Most non-Catholic commentary has been highly critical of the pope. A cartoon in the Philadelphia Inquirer, reprinted in The Post, showed the pope somewhat ghoulishly praising a throng of sick and dying Africans: "Blessed are the sick, for they have not used condoms."

Yet, in truth, current empirical evidence supports him.

We liberals who work in the fields of global HIV/AIDS and family planning take terrible professional risks if we side with the pope on a divisive topic such as this. The condom has become a symbol of freedom and -- along with contraception -- female emancipation, so those who question condom orthodoxy are accused of being against these causes. My comments are only about the question of condoms working to stem the spread of AIDS in Africa's generalized epidemics -- nowhere else.

In 2003, Norman Hearst and Sanny Chen of the University of California conducted a condom effectiveness study for the United Nations' AIDS program and found no evidence of condoms working as a primary HIV-prevention measure in Africa.
UNAIDS quietly disowned the study. (The authors eventually managed to publish their findings in the quarterly Studies in Family Planning.) Since then, major articles in other peer-reviewed journals such as the Lancet, Science and BMJ have confirmed that condoms have not worked as a primary intervention in the population-wide epidemics of Africa. In a 2008 article in Science called "Reassessing HIV Prevention" 10 AIDS experts concluded that "consistent condom use has not reached a sufficiently high level, even after many years of widespread and often aggressive promotion, to produce a measurable slowing of new infections in the generalized epidemics of Sub-Saharan Africa."

Here's some of the article from the Catholic News Agency; Hillary Clinton leaves flowers for Our Lady of Guadalupe, asks ‘Who painted it?’

Mexico City, Mexico, Mar 27, 2009 / 04:59 pm (CNA).- During her recent visit to Mexico, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made an unexpected stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and left a bouquet of white flowers “on behalf of the American people,” after asking who painted the famous image.

The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was miraculously imprinted by Mary on the tilma, or cloak, of St. Juan Diego in 1531. The image has numerous unexplainable phenomena, such as the appearance on Mary’s eyes of those present in the room when the tilma was opened and the image’s lack of decay.

Mrs. Clinton was received on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. by the rector of the Basilica, Msgr. Diego Monroy. After observing it for a while, Mrs. Clinton asked “who painted it?” to which Msgr. Monroy responded “God!”

Leaving the basilica half an hour later, Mrs. Clinton told some of the Mexicans gathered outside to greet her, “you have a marvelous virgin!”

This evening Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to receive the highest award given by Planned Parenthood Federation of America -- the Margaret Sanger Award, named for the organization's founder, a noted eugenicist. The award will be presented at a gala event in Houston, Texas.

In it's entirety, a fantastic article from The American Spectator; (No emphasis needed) Touchdown Obama
By George Neumayr on 3.27.09 @ 6:08AM

The Catholic Church in America has bred her own destroyers, graduating from doctrinally corrupt catechetical programs, schools and colleges two generations of pro-abortion politicians. Barack Obama, in his effortless Alinskyite style, has exploited this phenomenon to the hilt, seeking out Catholics such as Joe Biden and Kathleen Sebelius to serve as his agents of destruction.

The controversy this week at Notre Dame is one more snapshot of this self-implosion. Here we have the American bishops' most prominent university planning to confer an honorary degree upon Obama even as he accelerates the destruction of its moral teachings.

Were Saul Alinsky alive today, he would have to smile at the ease of it all. Obama can not only thwart the Church at every crucial turn and still retain the Catholic vote; he can even expect over the next few years prizes and pats on the back from Catholic colleges for doing so.

Jesuit Georgetown University is no doubt itching to honor him too; its professors ranked seventh among all university faculties in donations to Obama during the campaign, reported the Chronicle of Higher Education. The Jesuit magazine America and Jesuit Thomas Reese rushed to Notre Dame's defense this week.

Perhaps Obama enthusiast/fellow Alinskyite Father Michael Pfleger can travel over from Chicago for ND's commencement exercises to fill in for the boycotting Fort Wayne-South Bend Bishop John D'Arcy.

To his credit, D'Arcy, a long and lonely opponent of Notre Dame's secularization, wants no part in the sham, correctly noting that the school is once again panting after "prestige" at the expense of "truth." Four decades of surrendering to secularist culture and championing progressive politics at Notre Dame have culminated in an honorary degree to the most pro-abortion president ever.

Responding to this criticism, its president, Father John Jenkins, has had to dust off the "dialogue" defense from the recent Vagina Monologues controversy on campus to justify his decision.

Out rolled from the president's office the familiar cart of clichés. "You cannot change the world if you shun the people you want to persuade, and if you cannot persuade them…show respect for them and listen to them," Jenkins was quoted as saying.

What's the logic here? To dialogue with a public figure a school has to confer an honorary degree upon him? This makes no sense, but it is the kind of head-faking non sequiter that appeals to Jenkins.

Just as he twisted the Vagina Monologues controversy into a beside-the-point discussion about the value of free speech, so he is casting this recent one as some sort of test of Notre Dame's commitment to "positive engagement."

The White House, sensing the drift of this script, joined in the charade, saying in response to the controversy that it welcomes the "spirit of debate and healthy disagreement on important issues."

Which makes one wonder: When exactly will the debate take place? Before, during or after the commencement exercises? Will it proceed like Jenkins' "creative contexualization" panel discussions about the Vagina Monologues? Or is Obama's interest in "healthy disagreement" about as plausible as Jenkins' notion of "positive engagement"?

Notice also that for additional PR protection Jenkins is playing the race card. "It is of special significance that we will hear from our first African-American president, a person who has spoken eloquently and movingly about race in this nation. Racial prejudice has been a deep wound in America, and Mr. Obama has been a healer," he was quoted saying this week.

Again, how is this relevant to honorary-degree-conferring from a Catholic university? Does opposing racial injustice absolve supporting other injustices?

Imagine a reverse scenario, say a politician who supported the Church's moral teachings down the line but had some racist blot in his past. Would Jenkins honor him? No, he woudn't dare. But somehow Obama's formal cooperation in the injustice of destroying innocent lives just isn't so bad.

Here's some of the article from CNSnews.com; (Emphasis mine) Vatican Offical Says Catholics Who Voted for Obama Cooperated With Evil

(CNSNews.com) – Archbishop Raymond Burke said that Catholics who voted for President Barack Obama engaged in “a form of cooperation” with evil because of Obama’s pro-abortion policies.

If a Catholic knew that abortion was gravely sinful and that Obama wanted to make abortion more available and voted for him, that Catholic “cooperated” and bears a responsibility for the consequences, said Burke.
And don't bullshit yourself into believing that the vast majority of so-called "Catholics For Obama" will seek absolution from Christ through His Church. After all, Extra Democrat Party, Nulla Salus (Outside The Democratic Party, There Is No Salvation).

"I love this profession, but the finances are making it difficult," he said. Then there's this from JPANDS.org (Journal of the American Physicians and Surgeons); Thanks to skyrocketing jury awards, New Jersey hospitals have seen malpractice insurance premiums jump 250 percent over the past three years."Lastly, this from the NY Times; ...over a lifetime a plumber has a higher standard of living than a physician with a general practice because the doctor starts earning later, pays higher taxes and high malpractice insurance premiums.

Despite criticism, Notre Dame firm on Obama as commencement speaker

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- University of Notre Dame officials were standing firm on their choice of President Barack Obama as commencement speaker at the institution's May 17 graduation, in spite of a large number of Catholics calling on them to rescind the invitation.

The Indiana university, run by the Congregation of Holy Cross, and the White House announced March 20 that Obama would be Notre Dame's 2009 commencement speaker and confirmed he will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree at the graduation.

"The invitation to President Obama to be our commencement speaker should not be taken as condoning or endorsing his positions on specific issues regarding the protection of human life, including abortion and embryonic stem-cell research," said Holy Cross Father John I. Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame.

"Yet, we see his visit as a basis for further positive engagement," he said in a March 23 statement.

The announcement on Obama was promptly followed by a flurry of criticism from Catholics, who said the president's support of legal abortion and embryonic stem-cell research makes him
an inappropriate choice to be the commencement speaker at a Catholic university.

The Cardinal Newman Society -- a Manassas, Va.-based Catholic college watchdog group -- announced March 23 it had collected more than 54,000 signatures so far in an online petition that calls for Notre Dame to rescind its invitation to Obama to be this year's commencement speaker.

The petition drive initiated by the Cardinal Newman Society called it "an outrage and a scandal" for the university to honor Obama and asked Father Jenkins to "halt this travesty immediately."

"This nation has many thousands of accomplished leaders in the Catholic Church, in business, in law, in education, in politics, in medicine, in social services and in many other fields who would be far more appropriate choices to receive such an honor," the petition says.

By close to 3 p.m. EDT March 24, the Web site
www.notredamescandal.com reported having received more than 73,840 signatures on the petition.

Bishop John M. D'Arcy of Fort Wayne-South Bend -- the diocese where Notre Dame is located -- issued a statement March 24 saying he will not attend the 2009 Notre Dame commencement as a silent protest of Obama's policies regarding life issues. He said it will be the first time he will be absent from the ceremony in the 25 years he has been bishop of the diocese.

"I wish no disrespect to our president, I pray for him and wish him well," Bishop D'Arcy said. "But a bishop must teach the Catholic faith 'in season and out of season,' and he teaches not only by his words -- but by his actions. My decision is not an attack on anyone, but is in defense of the truth about human life."

The bishop also said he was disappointed with Notre Dame's choice of Obama as its commencement speaker, a pick he called "prestige over truth," and cited a 2004 statement by the U.S. Catholic bishops:
"The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions."

"By inviting Barack Obama as commencement speaker, Notre Dame is telling the nation that the teaching of the Catholic Church on this fundamental matter (of abortion) can be ignored," Ralph McInerny, a philosophy professor at Notre Dame, said in a March 23 column on his Web site, The Catholic Thing.

"For one whose 54-year career as a member of the Notre Dame faculty
[Father Jenkins] is coming to an end this June, it is a bitter thing to reflect on the 2009 commencement speaker," he said.

Jesuit Father Thomas J. Reese, a senior fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Jesuit-run Georgetown University in Washington, said he found it curious that Notre Dame would receive so much flak about its choice of commencement speaker, given that no such outrage occurred when the archbishop of New York invited Obama to speak at the 2008 Al Smith dinner. (Hey stupid, the Al Smith Dinner is named after a Catholic. That's it.)

"This is absurd," Father Reese said in a statement. "If Cardinal Edward Egan of New York can invite Obama to speak at the Al Smith dinner in October of 2008 when he was only a presidential candidate, then
there is certainly nothing wrong with Notre Dame having the president speak at a commencement.

"Other pro-choice speakers at Al Smith dinners included Al Gore and Tony Blair, a Catholic," he continued. "What is OK for a cardinal archbishop is certainly OK for a university."
Ahh... I get it now. Gutless is as gutless does. But thank God that there are still at least some real Catholics left on the campus of the UND.

They vote the liberal lifestyle, they live the liberal lifestyle, the profess conviction in the merits of the liberal lifestyle and yet they put their children in a Catholic school instead of the public school system that is the ultimate creation of liberal consciousness. They hide behind the people of faith, traditional values and the ten commandments yet profess publicly a very different belief. hmmm.
Reminds me very much of a conversation I had a few years back with someone along the same ilk that Mig just described. I was in conversation with this individual (from an Northern influential family with all the Kennedyesque credentials), who gave me every standard answer as to why his kids went to a "progressive Catholic school".

After pressing home the point to this individual that Catholic schools don't give (or at least aren't suppose to give) an approving wink and a nod to active homosexuality, women priests, the Sacrament of Confession is a nicety but not really necessary, questioning the Real Presence, abortion is a valid option, etc, etc, ad nauseum, I finally wheedled this guy's true motivation; "At least my kids don't have to go to school with spics and niggers."Why do I get the feeling he's not the only parent who's kids go to "progressive Catholic schools" that feels this way?

Doesn't Play Well With Others
Yes Sir, Commander in Chief, Sir

I haven't seen this on ANY of the other news outlets... and even the official transcript leaves it out... but check out the chilly response a reporter got last night when he DARED to ask Obama a blunt question (without all the pandering and groveling).

Comments and emphases mine, Fr Z style.

From Yahoo Buzz: Obama's Press Conference Stirs the Buzz

After an uncharacteristic gaffe on 'The Tonight Show' and an unfortunate case of the giggles on '60 Minutes,' President Obama had a lot riding on his Tuesday night press conference. The president largely stayed on message, using the hour to focus on the economy, the budget, and his anger (even if was delayed) at those darn AIG bonuses.

The buzziest moment came about 35 minutes into the press conference when Ed Henry of CNN asked the President why he didn't spew outrage as soon as he learned about the AIG bonuses. Why, Mr. Henry asked, did the president wait several days before speaking out? The president, with an icy stare, responded that he "likes to know what he's talking about" before he speaks. It was a pretty testy exchange that brought about nervous laughter from the other reporters and snarky responses from Twitterers. The transcript, by the way, has been changed since I first saw this article this morning. The laughter isn't mentioned anymore, but it was NOT described as "nervous." This sounds like a had-to-be-there moment, but I completely believe it. Boom! Next question.

...

You can read the full transcript of the press conference here.

Ooh, doesn't like it when people call him on his mistakes, huh?
Oh, Danny Boy...
The Cavemen they are calling you

Oh, hell. Daniel Hannan, Member of the European Parliament, is seen below ripping Gordon Brown a new one, but this could easily be directed at The South-Side Stooge.

This short video is well worth the watch.

Russian Orthodox Sides With Pope
So where are the Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans, and most of the members of the USCCB?

from Interfax-Religion.com; (Emphasis mine)
Moscow Patriarchate supports position of Pope Benedict XVI rejecting condoms

Moscow, March 20, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church supports the position of Pope Benedict XVI rejecting condoms including in order to prevent HIV infection.

"It is incorrect to consider condoms as a panacea for AIDS," the deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin (seen upper right) told a round table in Moscow on Friday, commenting on the international row concerned with the pope's statement in Africa.

AIDS can be prevented not by contraceptives but by education and a righteous life, the priest said.

"If a person lives a sinful, aimless and senseless life, uses drugs and is lewd, some disease will kill him one day, neither a condom nor medicine will save him," Fr. Vsevolod added.

Currently some organizations speaking on AIDS are seeking to simultaneously preserve the ideal of sexual freedom and the fight against AIDS, he said. It is impossible to reconcile these things, he said.
I understand that there are many reasons as to why it can't happen yet, but I look forward to the day that there is inter-Communion between us and the Eastern Orthodox.
Matthews Gets That Feeling Again
This time, up his [basket] balls

Here's some of the article from NewsBusters.org; (Emphasis mine)
Matthews: Obama's NCAA Picks 'Close to Brilliant'; Almost Half of ESPN Entrants Doing Better
Would you call getting a 53 on a test "close to brilliant?"

If you're Chris Matthews, and you're reporting about Barack Obama you would, for on Monday's "Hardball," the MSNBC host bragged about his president being "close to brilliant," "amazing," "incredibly on target," and "unbelievable" with his NCAA college basketball tournament picks.

Yet, when you dig into the numbers, out of all the entrants into ESPN.com's Tournament Challenge 2009, Obama currently ranks 2,167,290, which makes his relative score compared to others 53.20 percent.

This means that 46.80 percent of contestants -- or almost half -- are doing better than the President, but that didn't interfere with Matthews' praise.

Sadly, this was lost upon Matthews whose tingle up the leg continues to interfere with his cognitive skills.

The Ignorant Redneck Rants

I've decided to post this on my blog. Will you do the same? Turn Your Backs! And be Fearless about it!

There is all sorts of hullabaloo about President Obama getting an honorary degree from Notre Dame. Of course, as Notre Dame is a Catholic School, and Ex Cord Ecclessia says that Catholic schools should not honor or provide forums for pro-abortion politicians and activists, it's inappropriate.

And there is opposition, on campus and off. As of today 65,000 people, mostly ND alums from what I understand (and I may be wrong about that!) have signed a petition protesting it. Bishop D'Arcy has said he will boycott the Commencement ceremony. Lots of unhappiness about this.

I have a suggestion to make: Pro-life persons who can should attend, and when Obama receives his degree, and when he speaks, stand up and TURN THEIR BACKS ON HIM--IN SILENCE!

This would show extreme disapproval of his abortion and ESCR policies. It would show disapproval of the University's action. And, it would hit him where he lives: his ego and his perception of himself as a popular and populist leader.

If you think this is a good idea, spread the word, let others know.

I Sure Hope He Does Have The Heart Of A Lion
He'll need it

Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, Auxiliary of the Diocese of San Diego, has been tapped to be the next Bishop of Oakland. And what a shit-hole he's been cast into. He's got his work cut out for him.

Bishop Cordileone can count on many of his own priests to hate him, undermine him, and back stab him at every turn.

Pretty strong words, huh? What do I have to back it up with? Just this;
Interim administrator for Oakland diocese once allowed homosexual marriages, built church with no crucifix or tabernacle. And this...
The Diocese of Oakland's Gay Outreach Ministry will show a film that teaches homosexuality “is as natural for homosexuals as heterosexuality is for heterosexuals”.And this;
“For women and men engaged in ministry in the Diocese of Oakland”

...Rosemary Ruether also wants to discard patriarchal and hierarchical notions of God; she and other “eco-feminists” have said that God can be called Gaia, the name of the Roman mother earth goddess.

Thus, it is perhaps no surprise that the Sophia Summer Institute will feature something called “Missa Gaia -- A Mass for the World,” presented by Sophia’s director, Jim Conlon.
And those are just a few. One doesn't have to research all that much to see what a theological cesspool the Diocese of Oakland is. Literally in the shadow of San Francisco, is this a surprise? And here's this bishop who not only is receptive to the Traditional Latin Mass, but actually celebrates it? You don't have to be a Nostradumbass to figure out how he'll be received.

But anyhow, if I could be so bold as to suggest one piece of Marine Corps wisdom to Bp. Cordileone, it would be this; nothing makes a first impression like the extreme.

And if His Excellency thinks for a second that he can reason with the raving Modernists who are so well entrenched in Oakland, well... I suggest he purchase side-mirrors for his biretta and a Kevlar cassock.
North Carolina Bishop Tries To Remove Knife From Back
Film at 11

Not exactly a big shocker that a Catholic bishop would have a hack... oops, I mean reporter from the secular media look for every questionable quote (during an entire lifetime) from any given priest. But then again, liberals believe that if anyone even has the audacity to even question the legitimacy and correctness of sodomy, they've committed the gravest of sins against the gods of political correctness.

It's quite another to have a Catholic bishop so publicly be challenged from some of his own priests.

I'll touch on the hatchet job done by the newspaper guy, but I'll emphasize on the Quislings that attempt to pass themselves off as Catholics. Here's some of the article from the Raleigh News & Observer; (Emphasis and comments mine)
Ministry begins for gays, lesbians
Chapter of Courage support group aimed at men, women who want to remain celibate
By Yonat Shimron
McClatchy Newspapers
Sunday, February 22, 2009

RALEIGH — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh is starting a new ministry to gays and lesbians. Yet those who have embraced that identity may not like it.
(Popularity, isn't that one of the Meatitudes that Jesus taught us?)

The ministry is called Courage, and its aim, in the words of its executive director, is to "assist men and women who are afflicted with the thorn of same-sex attraction." A 29-year-old international ministry with about 90 U.S. chapters, the Courage Apostolate will serve as a kind of support group, like Alcoholics Anonymous, for men and women who want to remain celibate. (Good for Bishop Burbidge for initiating this. This is exactly what this diocese needs. Especially after the past few decades of ambiguity, if not flat-out in-your-face rejection of anything even remotely resembling orthodox Catholicism... from our own clerics and Religious.)

The move is part of a more aggressive push by the dioceses of Raleigh and Charlotte to march in step with the Vatican on the issue of homosexuality. (Ohhh.... dontchta just love that objective reporting? Images of Nazis goosestepping up and down the boulevard, huh? You don't think this distorter, oops, I mean reporter, as an agenda, do you? Nahhhh....)

On Tuesday, the bishops of both dioceses will hold a news conference at the legislature to announce their support for an amendment to the state's constitution defining marriage as a union of a man and a woman. The effort is intended to quash the possibility of same-sex marriage, should a court find North Carolina's law prohibiting gay unions unconstitutional. (And? Oh... loyal Catholics don't have free speech anymore. I see now.)

Nationally, there are several gay and lesbian ministries — some that accept gays and lesbians as they are, others such as Courage that view homosexuality as a problem to be overcome. (Notice how subtly the distorter nuances this sentence? That almost gives the impression that The Catholic Church gives legitimacy to active homosexuals. Don't you love the liberal press?)

Though retired Raleigh Bishop F. Joseph Gossman chose not to wade into this thorny thicket, his successor, Bishop Michael Burbidge, is more eager to conform to the Vatican line. (No, Bp. Burbidge isn't "conforming" to a damn thing. He's acting like a bishop of the Holy Catholic Church. What a refreshing change. Oh, and there is no "thorny thicket", but a pastoral concern that requires courage and leadership, not whimpering lip-service.)

The late Pope John Paul II endorsed the work of Courage. More recently, Pope Benedict XVI reiterated the implacable opposition of the church to homosexuality. The Vatican refused to back a United Nations resolution urging the banning of criminal penalties against homosexuality. Last year, the Vatican urged seminaries to enlist the aid of psychologists in screening candidates for homosexuality and other "psychic disturbances." (A man wanting to root around in another man's feces filled colon? Yeah, I'd qualify that as a "psychic disturbance".)

The Rev. James Fukes, pastor of St. Julia Catholic Church in Siler City, N.C., who will serve as the spiritual director for Courage, said the new ministry was added at the request of parishioners. (Ohhhh... you mean the laity actually REQUESTED this??!! Notice how it's glazed over.)

"There have been some people who asked for some ministry by the Catholic Church to help them deal with the challenges and difficulties they have and remain close to God," he said. (How very Catholic.)

Still, several priests expressed concern about the new ministry. (Aw, bullshit. I know the difference between concern, and diplomatically stating "go to hell, Your Excellency" when I see it.)

"I know the Courage move is an effort to include people of gay orientation in the Catholic community," said the Rev. Joseph Vetter, Catholic chaplain at Duke University. "I'm concerned it may be read by some gay Catholics as not accepting of who they are." (Bingo.)

Gay and lesbian Catholics said they too are waiting to see how the new ministry will affect their lives. (Oh, golly. Maybe help save their souls? Ya think? Hold on... me thinks the Church of the Sacred Orgasm is about to rear it's psychically disturbed head.)

One diocesan church, St. Francis of Assisi in northwest Raleigh, has an active gay and lesbian ministry but takes a different tack: to welcome gays and lesbians "into full participation in the faith community," according to its Web site, www.stfrancisglbt.org. (Strike One.)

"Its purpose is not to change their orientation, but to help them find a place in the community," said Gladys Whitehouse, coordinator of family life ministry at St. Francis. The group sponsors a supper during Lent and has an annual retreat, among other things. (Strike Two.)

Chuck Small, one of the group's leaders, said gays and lesbians are respected at St. Francis and serve as lectors and Eucharistic ministers. Small, a former editor at The News & Observerwho is openly gay, lives with his partner, Tom Attaway. (If a reporter can find this information out, I would think the priest(s) as St Francis would know this, as well. Wouldn't you? Do you somehow get the feeling that certain "Catholic" priests are overtly making the public statement that Sodomy is wholesome, right and acceptable? Ya think?)

"The smart thing for us to do is to meet with these folks and find out where we're at," he said. (No, Chuckie. the smart thing for you to do is to cease confusing your fecally encrusted penis for your moral compass. You coming across as a queer Toucan Sam (Follow Your Wang!) isn't exactly endearing to anyone, except maybe your boyfriend... and your parish priest. By the way -- Strike Three.)

In the meantime, he said, the St. Francis ministry will continue its work independently. (Translation: Go to hell, Bishop Burbidge.)
I'm of the opinion that it's past due the time for pruning away and plucking out.

You think someone needs to fill out a copy of The Liberal Catholic Hurt Feelings Report?
The Rosary Dilemma

...one woman's anguish...(a true story)

I'd like to start out by saying that there is no one that I know of, that has a greater Marian devotion than my wife, the 'Curly Red Haired Girl' that I've talked about on past posts. She has a problem, she goes right to Our Mother for help. If the kids or I have an issue, you can bet that the Blessed Virgin will be called upon for Intercession. A friend in need? She's gonna make sure her 'Momma' has their back. I would not be where I am today without her deep, true love and trust of Our Lady.

All that said, I fear I am at the cause of a bit of a dent in the relationship between my dear wife and Our Queen...

I'll need to go back three years to give this picture some clarity. It was then that I volunteered to become a Catechist for the Faith Formation program at our parish. That's right, I was gonna become 'part of the solution', imparting my wisdom and knowledge on those young malleable minds, eager to absorb what I was teaching like thirsty sponges...ahem...anyway...one of the things we had to do during the course of the year, was come up with a service project (because God forbid parents get their children involved in service to the Church on their own initiative...) for the class to partake in. Not wanting to do the usual scrub the pews or clean and weed the Church grounds, I came across an article on a retired Army Ranger who started a ministry making Rosaries out of the same parachute cord he use to make his out of when out in the field and sending them to Catholic Servicemen. I thought this was perfect, especially with the majority of the class being male. I pitched it as we were sending the guys defending our country, one more weapon to defeat Islam with! They ate it up and enjoyed the project, there were two problems though. One was that you had to buy 2 spools of parachute cord, which was enough to make over 400 rosaries and two was that a lot of the kids were not very good at it. The other Catechist, who was a military brat and real gung ho about the project as well, had to make up the slack with me and it forced us to make about 150 Rosaries each, on our own.

...the picture is probably becoming clearer for some of you now...

For about a month, my house became Combat Rosary Central. Parachute cord, beads, plastic crucifixes everywhere. Mini sweat shops with my younger guys crying, 'can we go play now?', and me answering 'c'mon guys, let's string together one more decade, for the troops!' All my normal fatherly duties fell by the waist side as my OCD tendencies flared, turning me into a renegade rosary stringer, run amok in my own house. My wife patiently tolerated the chaos until one day she just exploded...'I'm sick and tired that all you're doing around here, is make rosaries...' We all fell silent. Everyone recognized the enigma I'd created. My wife left the room without another word, I'll assume to our bedroom to make amends with the Blessed Mother.Me, I Was trying to pluck pony beads out of the carpet fibers and act like everything was normal to a bunch of kids who thought we'd soon be converting to the Baptist faith. The final rosaries I made, I did like an alcoholic who slipped off the wagon. Slipping a decade or two of beads on when no one was looking. Finally, the project was completed, the rosaries delivered to a MEU leaving out of Camp Lejeune and normalcy returned to our home.

Two years later and I've moved up two grades and have the same group for Confirmation prep. Discussion came up for our service projects and one of the guys ask, 'can we make those rosaries again?' So here we are, another challenge for my wife, who took the news that we'll be making rosaries again with a feigned smile of support, saying what a great project it is and more than likely wondering how long the 'other Woman' will be taking her husband away...

I'd just like to close this post with a final question...

...has the Blessed Mother ever caused such contention in anyone else's house?

My First Ever Pro-French Posting ...Well, Sort Of
St Joan, Patroness of France, Ora Pro Nobis

Interesting article from Reuters. Here's some of it; (Emphasis and comments mine)
Pope protesters, supporters clash in France

(Reuters) - Far-right youths clashed with left-wing activists who had gathered outside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on Sunday to protest against Pope Benedict's opposition to condoms, a police source said.

About 30 ecologists and Communists threw condoms on the ground outside the cathedral, where worshippers were leaving Sunday mass.
(What, no arrests for hate crimes against Catholics? I wonder if the Lefties had pulled this shit at a mosque, would there have been a different outcome? I can't help but think that the Gendarmes would have nervously smiled and looked the other way while the Lefties were beheaded.)

One person was injured and three were arrested after clashes between the protesters and about 20 youths who the police source said were associated with the far-right and who were carrying placards saying "Leave my Pope alone". (Ahhh... anyone who has the bad manners to supports the Pope is now "far-right". Nice job of objective reporting, Reuters.)

Benedict said in Africa on Tuesday that the use of condoms was complicating the fight against AIDS, reaffirming the Roman Catholic Church's opposition to condoms.

The comments were criticised by French politicians from all parties.
(Funnny how Reuters makes no mention of French politicians who defended The Holy Father. Amazing, huh?)

The pope's comments came ahead of an AIDS action weekend in France. AIDS-awareness activists Act Up-Paris also organised a "die-in" outside Notre-Dame on Sunday. They carried portraits of the pontiff accompanied by the slogan "Benoit XVI Assasin."

"By refusing to allow the promotion of condoms, the Catholic Church has millions of deaths on its conscience," Act Up-Paris said in a statement.
(Of course, Reuters fails to mention that Act Up-Paris is one of that nation's more militantly pro-homosexual, anti-Catholic organizations. Yet again, amazing, huh?)

Human Rights Minister Rama Yade said she was "dumbfounded" by the pope's comments. Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner called them "the opposite of tolerance and understanding". (And as I cited a few paragraphs above, no mention from Reuters concerning a French politician who commented "the French political class," which has carried out a veritable "witch hunt" against the Pontiff."

France is traditionally a Catholic country, although less than 10 percent of the population attend Sunday mass. But about 200,000 people turned out for an open-air service in Paris last year when the pope visited the country. (200 grand? Not bad for a place where so very few even attend Mass... supposedly.)
Why I CANNOT STAND the R.C.I.A.!!!

It has become a dumping ground for everything nauseatingly protestant about the Novus Ordo. Is it just me or has anyone ever considered that people converting to the True Faith do so, in large part, to get away from this inane and freakish tripe?! It hurts to even watch this!

It's worse than Vince from ShamWow® and SlapChop®! I hate it - it drives me nuts and makes me think less than charitable thoughts about the "cantress" singing in the background and the sanctuary flitting hipster wearing sandals in the forefront!

Yet, I just can't stop watching!!!!!

"This Isn't Just An Empty Meeting Hall Where People Come Together To Share Their Faith..."
It is a place where Jesus Himself is present and His Sacrifice is renewed at every Mass"

That is a dangerous notion. According to what I've seen in the particular Deanery I live in.

In the Cape Fear Deanery, I gets the definite impression that a "church" is nothing more than a glorified community hall.

But love, hate or indifferent to the SSPX, this is an interesting video. Just give it a few minutes. If it doesn't interest you, cut it off. But at least give it a fair listening to.

Especially in this Deanery (a veritable hot-bed of heterodoxy). Flat-out anti-Catholic attitudes and notions are subtly (and sometimes not too subtly) fostered from both the pulpits as well as "Catholic" classrooms.

Personally, I don't attend Mass as celebrated by the SSPX, but if there were one readily available locally, instead of my 5 hours + on the interstate every Sunday, I just might attend.

And for those that tut-tut me for having that attitude, attend the 3-Ring Circus that is "the Mass" at any of the Self-Worshiporiums here at the Cape Fear Deanery.
"What Does Not Kill You Will Only Make You Stronger"
Or at least end up with your clumsy ass on crutches

WARNING! Harsh language alert! Must be the Tramadol talking.

Yes, I'm on crutches. Torn left calf muscle, and I'm high as a kite.

Here's what happened -

I'm doing some road work a little over a week ago, and I see this older gal sitting in her parked car with her face down on the steering wheel. "Oh, shit!" says I. "That ol' broad's havin' a cardiac!" I'm literally ready to SPRING into action! Here's my big chance to put my official American Red Cross CPR Training to use.

How'd the first step go again? Hmm.. jab an index finger wildly about and sternly say; "YOU, call 911! YOU, do you know CPR!? One-and-two-and-three-and-four-and-five-and-BLOW!!"

I felt kinda like a super-hero. I even came up with my own snappy catch-phrase: Let's Go Save Some Lives. All I need now is my own theme music.

Anyhow, all this crap went through my head in a span of about three seconds. And the whole damn time, I'm eyeballin' Grandma Moses to see if any new medical malady may have struck. And I'm also wondering of my Red Cross Lifesaving Card has any possible eventuality checked off. Stroke, rabies, gingivitis, Bubonic Plague, crabs... hell, I'm ready. I've been ready.

Little did I realize that in front of me was a crack in the sidewalk that gave about a half inch or so rise. And yes, I went ass over tea kettle. ARRRRGH! To say I ripped the livin' shit outta my calf would be an understatement.

Of course, some Northern Transplant (sideways Mets cap and all) runs up to me was says as only a Brooklynite can say; "OH MY GWOD! I sawz da whole freakin' ting! Youze OK? I seen youz fwall down. Did it hoit? Gwod, it lookz like it hoits!" My new friend, Vinnie (aren't they all named "Vinnie"?) ended up giving me a ride home. God bless his gold-chained wearin' Yankee ass.

But the coups de grâce to my spaz-moment was when granny rolls down her window and croaks "You alright?" Through clenched teeth, I manage a smiling "No problem, I'm OK!" But I was thinking; "shit lady, out of common courtesy, you could at least have a friggin' mild heart attack!" I still haven't figured out why her head was on her steering wheel.

And it took me a week and a day to finally go to the doctor. And yes, the doctor asked why it took so long for me to see him. My stereotypical answer; "hey, I'm a guy!"

For whatever reason, he didn't find that as funny as I did.

Freakin' SLAM!!
As I rapidly approach the possibility of counting on TWO hands, the number of American Catholic Bishops with a backbone

Finally... FINALLY! Here's some of the article from The Catholic News Agency; (Emphasis mine) Catholic ‘complacency’ shares blame for country’s failures, Archbishop Chaput says

Detroit, Mich., Mar 21, 2009 / 12:32 pm (CNA).- Archbishop of Denver Charles J. Chaput delivered a speech on Saturday reflecting on the significance of the November 2008 election. Warning that media “narratives” should not obscure truth, he blamed the indifference and complacency of many U.S. Catholics for the country’s failures on abortion, poverty and immigration issues.

...Archbishop Chaput said: “November showed us that 40 years of American Catholic complacency and poor formation are bearing exactly the fruit we should have expected.
(That just might explain the priest yesterday who tried 3 times within a 10 minute conversation to convince me that I needed a "partnership with God". This guy just didn't get it that God is our Divine Master, and we're all just humble servants... not "partners".)

Noting that there was no question about President Barack Obama’s views on abortion “rights,” embryonic stem cell research and other “problematic issues,” he commented:

“Some Catholics in both political parties are deeply troubled by these issues. But too many Catholics just don’t really care. That’s the truth of it.

Offering a sober evaluation of the state of American Catholicism, he added:

“We need to stop over-counting our numbers, our influence, our institutions and our resources, because they’re not real. We can’t talk about following St. Paul and converting our culture until we sober up and get honest about what we’ve allowed ourselves to become. We need to stop lying to each other, to ourselves and to God by claiming to ‘personally oppose’ some homicidal evil -- but then allowing it to be legal at the same time.”

Commenting on society’s attitude towards Catholic beliefs, Archbishop Chaput said, “we have to make ourselves stupid to believe some of the things American Catholics are now expected to accept.”
(And the responsibility lies squarely in the collective laps of the members of the USCCB. What good are shepherds who lay with the wolves?)
That's One Pissed-Off Fairy
Who you callin' "Homotaedet"?

I personally don't have a fear (phobia) of homosexuality. But I do have a revulsion to a certain act that's the textbook definition of both sexual perversion and abnormality.

That's why I decided to coin a new phrase a couple of years ago: Homotaedet - One disgusted by active homosexuality.

Here's some of the article from CyberCastNews.com;(Emphasis and smart-ass change mine)

Barney Frank: Antonin Scalia is a ‘Homophobe’

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Fudgepackia), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said in an interview Friday on 365gay.com that
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia is a “homophobe.”

“At some point, [the Defense of Marriage Act] is going to have to go to the United States Supreme Court,” Frank said. “I wouldn’t want it to go to the United States Supreme Court now because that homophobe Antonin Scalia has too many votes on this current court.”
Just to make sure I understand this correctly, the attack on Justice Scalia is coming from the same Backdoor Conquistador who;
...had purchased the services of a live-in lover and allowed him to operate a homosexual prostitution service from the congressman's Washington apartment.

The Times revealed that Mr. Frank knew that his prostitute lover, Steve Gobie, was on probation in Virginia for cocaine possession, oral sodomy and sex offenses involving a juvenile...

Is This a Typo? Please Tell Me They Meant "YOGURT"!!!

...business as usual in the Cape Fear Deanery...

Just what I needed to steal my 'Lenten Groove', my wife shows me an E-mail she recently received, from a mom concerned about an upcoming 'All Day Health Expo' event at St. Mary's Catholic School in Wilmington. Sounds innocent enough doesn't it? They offer info all sorts of great stuff to teach the kids about maintaining good health, from schools E-Letter:

"Looking ahead to the 24th of this month your children will have an all day Health Expo. The purpose is to teach students about good life-long habits. The expo will be set up in 30 minute interactive stations: Make Your Own Smoothies, Surfing, Dental Health, Dance, Computer, Fencing, Yoga, Exercise and Healthy Snacks and Healthy Hearts. The Students are to wear comfortable work-out clothes and gym shoes."

...ain't that sweet...I bet I could count on my hand how many kids in that school (or teachers for that matter) that can tell you what a well formed Catholic conscience is and here we are teaching them how to get their 'Chi' in line. But then again, this is the same deanery that has two schools with the philosophy of, 'well, the enrollment is up', whenever a concern is raised about anything deviating from true Catholic teaching. Yeah, 'enrollment is up'. I also heard the Temple was pretty crowded when Christ drove the money changers out.

There is a great buzz in this area on the prospects of a Catholic High School being built down here. I'd be jazzed about it myself, but after 8 years witnessing how the lower grade schools operate, I must admit, I question what type of atmosphere would be created to appease the luke-warmers and non-Catholic's who will no doubt want the dog and pony that their kids just participated in for the past 9 years to continue? Can a Catholic High School actually exist if the student body has to be drastically weened from their 'Harry Potter' and 'His Dark Material' Books, liturgical dance and yoga? Can their young minds accept the fact that their Savior was a Carpenter and not a Community Organizer?

Getting back to the Yoga, I know the old argument, "we are only using it for the exercise and stretching aspect...blah-blah-blah, yada-yada...". I'll just defer to Father John Hardon on this subject:

Yoga is incompatible with Catholicism because the best known practice of Hindu spirituality is Yoga. “Inner” Hinduism professes pantheism, which denies that there is only one infinite Being who created the world out of nothing. This pantheistic Hinduism says to the multitude of uncultured believers who follow the ways of the gods that they will receive the reward of the gods.

Link

So here we have a school right next to a Catholic Shrine and we are pushing these kids through portals towards Hindu practices and their gods? Did anyone there ever think of spending a little time in front of the Eucharist? Does wonders for my mental and spiritual health. Heavens to Betsy no, we are giving them Yoga for 'Spiritual Health' tips.
