What-Where-When Meme...
Tagged by my bestest Brit bloggin' buddy, Big Mac over at Mulier Fortis

It's a "what were you doing, and where" meme...

1. President Kennedy's Assassination - 22 November 1963
I was still crappin' in diapers. Probably the only two things on my mind at the time were "when do I get a bottle and when is someone going to wipe my ass?"

2. England's World Cup Semi Final v Germany - 4 July 1990
They did? "The World Cup"... what's that?

3. Margaret Thatcher's resignation - 22 November 1990
I thought "does that mean she can come here and be Queen of America"? I love that old broad.

4. Princess Diana's death - 31 August 1997
I found out when I got home from work. I recall feeling sad that such a wonderful life that had turned out so tragic, ended even more tragically.

5. Attack on the twin towers - 11 September 2001
I had that Monday off, and I remember that my wife came into the bedroom to wake me up and tell me that a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center. I immediately thought of what happened back in WWII when a bomber accidentally hit the Empire State Building. I thought that maybe a small privately owned plane accidentally hit the WTC. But as I was watching the reports that an airliner hit, I called my big sister back in California. We were just chit-chatting about how things must have really been screwed up with air traffic control to allow an airliner that close to south Manhattan. Then we watched as the second airliner was making the turn towards the WTC. I said to both my sister and wife "Oh God, it's a terrorist attack." Then the 2d plane hit...

6. The election of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger to the papacy - 19 April 2005
I was parked on my recliner right here at home. Without thinking, my first reaction was to stand and cheered. Once I composed myself, I thanked God.

I tag everyone who would like to play.

  2. "The World cup - what's that?"

I understand your confusion, Cavey. It's not like the "world" series American style, ie the whole American world. It's the "whole" world!

    Cheeky monkey!

  3. 1. Not even close to being born.
    2. Must have been watching fireworks with my folks...
    3. In middle school. All I remember is thinking that John Major looked kinda shady with that funky mustache.
    4. In college, probably studying.
    5. Sitting in cardiology class, amazed that the professor tried to keep lecturing till the dean came in to stop him.
    6. Sitting at my desk in the lab, with the "white smoke cam" on in the corner of the screen. Teared up, had to make sure co-workers didn't see.

  4. 1. Nowhere close to being born.
    2. I guess I was watching fireworks downtown with my folks. Not at all interested in soccer, to this day.
    3. In middle school. My only memory is thinking that John Major looked vaguely slimy with his funky mustache.
    4. In college, probably studying. Not terribly upset; I guess I was already turning monarchist at that point.
    5. Sitting in Cardiology lecture, wondering why the professor just kept going despite the news. The dean stepped in the room and switched on CNN shortly thereafter. Watched the news on a huge projector screen all morning with 160 classmates.
    6. Teared up at my desk in the lab, where no one else cared but me...
