Those Rad-Trads Think They're 'More Catholic' Than Everyone Else!
"I come to 1:30 Mass just for the puppets..."
Gee, we must have hit a raw nerve. We've all heard it a number of times -- "those Traddies think they're so much better/Catholic than me!" Well to the Rad-Novus Ordites, it's not so much the case that we think we're better or even more Catholic than you. I believe it's simply a case where we take our Faith seriously. Our Faith is a grown-up Faith, whereas yours is not only childlike, but childish.
Traditionalists will routinely drive well over 200 miles to attend a TLM. Is it because we're all so exceedingly wealthy and have bucoup bucks to drop on gasoline? No... we're going to worship and actually meet Jesus physically present in the Eucharist. And He's worth it.
Upon arrival at church, proper, Traditionalists actually kneel in prayer to spiritually prepare themselves for Christ's Unbloodly Sacrifice on Calvary. We don't engage in (usually rather loud) conversation with those around us concerning Aunt Suzie's Pineapple Upsidedown Cake recipe. No... we're going to worship and actually meet Jesus physically present in the Eucharist. And He's worth it.
We really do believe the maxim: "Your External Appearance is a Direct Reflection of your Inward Disposition towards God." We don't look like we just fell out of bed when we go to Mass. We shave. We shower. Be brush our hair. We brush our teeth. We wear pressed out and clean clothes. And speaking of clothes, they may not be from Saks 5th Avenue, but they're the best we have. Do we dress in the best we have just to show-off? No... we're going to worship and actually meet Jesus physically present in the Eucharist. And He's worth it.
During the Mass proper, we fully realize and focus upon the Sacrificial Nature of the Mass and the logical conclusion of all it entails. The focus isn't on the person to the left or to the right of us. But shouldn't the community aspect of the Mass be central? No... we're going to worship and actually meet Jesus physically present in the Eucharist. And He's worth it.
Sometimes, we actually don't receive Holy Communion during Mass due to Mortal Sin on our soul. But as long as I utilize my well formed conscience?, isn't it essentially up to me if I'm worthy? No... we're going to worship and actually meet Jesus physically present in the Eucharist. And He's worth it.
'Nuff said.
Cavey,
ReplyDeleteOne of the best posts you've ever done! Right on the mark.
Is there a difference between the TLM and the Novus Ordo? A difference between Trads and NO Catholics? Of course. Just as there is a difference between Marines and the Air Force. Both members of the DOD, but man, what a difference!!!
Semper Fi
Lovely! I couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a theme in this post, "And He's worth it!"
ReplyDeleteExcellent! and Correct!
Brilliant post.
ReplyDeleteI have one teensy little gripe...
Sometimes we don't receive Holy Communion during Mass because of something other than mortal sin...
...like, I've received already at a previous Mass
...or, I was late, and it was my fault through carelessness, and so I don't feel I'm prepared to receive my Lord and God
etc. etc...
Puppet Masses!!?!? Lessons on physical hygiene as part of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!?!?! No wonder kids -- and parents -- have lost their sense of awe about being in the presence of their Savior.
ReplyDeleteI think all children Masses are a farce. Watch any child, boys want to use Dad's tools, girls want to wear Mom's clothes or make-up. In other words, they aspire to do what grownups do. Dumbing down the Mass does not help children. Teach them bible stories, the Ten Commandments, and other items of our Faith in Catholic school or in Sunday School, but have them attend Mass with their parents. Back before Vatican II, I remember hearing sermons (not "homilies") on abortion before I was old enough to know what abortion was. What I did pick up from the priest's tone and emphasis was that it was a very serious subject.
Worse, years ago when I was a Sunday School teacher for some years, I would have parents who sent the kids to Sunday School while they attended Mass causing the kids to miss Mass altogether!! Some example!
Mac,
ReplyDeleteHow true.
BTW, what's my pennance for my previous disparaging remarks concerning the state of British cooking?
Cavey,
ReplyDeleteBest post you've ever done.
And you've done a LOT of REALLY GOOD posts!!!!!
I have nothing to add, right on!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Cavey, you cannot be made to do penance for speaking the truth...
ReplyDelete(My mother is German, so I'm not insulting her cooking...)
