Even More Reasons To Want Bobby Jindal As Veep
But don't count on McCain using any sense
A few headlines make me like Bobby Jindal even more.
Bobby Jindal Signs Law Allowing Intelligent Design in Louisiana Schools
Governor Bobby Jindal Signs Chemical Castration Bill
Jindal Wants New Law to Execute Child Rapists
Every single one makes perfect sense to me.
I'm on the boat as well.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I feel strongly both ways. Louisiana needs a good governor but we need a conservative on the ticket...
ReplyDeleteVeep? No--new party president.
ReplyDeleteI am still on the fence with that guy. He already broke a promise. I have to admit these are all great examples of serios leadership.
ReplyDeleteHe was a bit unpopular for the last few days though when out LA legislators gave themselves a pay raise and he didn't veto it. He gave into public pressure a few days ago...
ReplyDeletePssssst:
ReplyDeleteCastration, in any form, is forbidden by Catholic teaching.
Dad29,
ReplyDeleteAre you sure? I seem to racall a passage that said words to the effect of: "If thine avacados offend thee, shrivel them up".
Avocados, eh?
ReplyDeleteNote that that passage was specific about WHO would do the 'shrivel-u-lation,'--that being one's self.
Yah, I'm sure about castration. It comes under 'mutilation' in the Big Book of No-Nos. That's no different from, say, severing testes for birth control purposes.
It IS interesting that the State is authorized to use the death penalty, but not mutilation.
Dad29,
ReplyDeleteYes, avacados.
But anyhow, are you so sure concerning your stance? According to the CCC (or is that "The Big Book of No-No's"?);
Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations, and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against the moral law
Keeping one from raping children certainly does qualify as "therapeutic" to me. And I certainly wouldn't consider any of these individuals to be "innocent persons".
But it's all really academic, seeing that I'm in favor of putting child molestors/rapists to death.
We agree on the DP (with all the usual caveats...)
ReplyDeleteThe language is clear. The first clause ("except for strictly therapeutic...") excludes castration for PENAL purposes. (I will ignore the pun possibilities..)
Therapeutic, in church-speak, has to do with e.g. treating cancer, not with preventing rape.
H&K, properly applied, prevents rape. 9mm or .45, your choice.
...but then again, I consider millstones tied around the necks of certain individuals as "therapeutic".
