At least it's a start
Here's some of the article from The Australian;
The Pope has decided he will not wear the vestments specially designed for World Youth Day and billed as "chic clergy couture" on the WYD website.
The "earthy-red" coloured vestments feature the Southern Cross constellation on the front and an indigenous feature titled "Marjorie's Bird" on the back.
The Pope is known to dislike vestment symbols that are not explicitly Christian. He may, though, wear some variation on the vestment design, a WYD spokeswoman said.
Oh, and seeing that Rome is so hot to trot on rejecting vestments that aren't "explicitly Christian", can someone explain to me these creepy-assed Blair Witch Project Mass vestments?
During Advent, on Gaudette Sunday, my pastor will not wear the rose(pink)vestments (if he thinks he can get away with it. He wears a deep blue.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw this, I said (loudly, in mock ignorance) "I didn't know blue was a liturgical color!" He had this look of "Shit - I'm busted!" look on his face for a second, and then, soto voce and a bit of wry humor said "We won't mention that to anybody."
The Church needs to let WYD go.

ReplyDeleteThose look more like the white Geneva Gown and stole that some Methodist clergy are using, when they don't want to switch to the Alb and Stole that their more liberal collegues are using.
Well, he has such a mess to clean up thanks to those before him in the last 30 years, so he has to pick his battles somewhere to avoid civil war...though I think war with modernists is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWhose the fairy godfather playing handy dandy pandy with the children?
ReplyDeleteIt's a start, bringing back the Stations of the Cross would be a good thing (no, the real stations that include Traditon).
