You've Come A Long Way, BABY!
She's cool, she's hip, she's the Mother of God!
Helmet tip to David from Down Under
OK gang, it's time to play the latest installment of "Name That Embarrassment".

Well. That was about the most retarded thing I've ever read.
According to the body language, this "Mary" doesn't seem uncertain. I can't see the facial expression very well but would say that from the description, it counters what the rest of her body is saying.
A wide stance such as this one is a pretty aggressive position. It means you take no prisoners. Couple that with the right hand on the hip and it conveys mega-attitude.
Follow her? The message seems to say "I demand" more than anything else.
This isn't Mary's heart, by a long shot. Yeesh.
I'm likin' the game show element of late...."Who Wants To Be A Heretic" would be great!
Time to dust off the bat and revive the Heretic Whisperer.
Happy Mother's Day to the Saintly Lady of the Cave, too. (She'd have to be, wouldn't she?)
The last time I saw a woman standing like that she was on the strip in the bad part of town and she was a "working girl". Are the Australians crazy or just the Catholic ones.
When I saw this, I thought it distinctly immodest; more Mary Magdalene than Our Lady. The Blessed Virgin doesn't need to have that "china doll" quality one sees on so much traditional art; but this seems to me to be irreverent; more Marian "art for shock value".
Have you seen the artist's other paintings, namely, from his Heart of Darkness series? Before you click on this link, be warned that the images are very graphic and disturbing.
A description of the series is on this page .
