VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The four dozen people who received Communion from Pope Benedict XVI on the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ received the Eucharist on the tongue while kneeling.

Vatican officials said the gesture at the May 22 Mass outside the Basilica of St. John Lateran does not mark a permanent change in papal liturgies, but highlighted the solemnity of the feast and a connection to Mass practices in the past.I've said it before, I'll say it again... if Jesus came down out of the clouds and stood before you right this moment, how would you greet Him -- on your knees in awe and reverence, or standing with a handshake?

    Remember, "may not" is not the same "does not".

    Also the phrase "may not" implies that the change "MAY" be permanat also.

    Sadly, I think a lot of people would greet Jesus with a handshake, if he even got that. Too many people have been hearing the "God is love" message and they've forgotten (or haven't been taught) that there's judgment at the end of all this. We aren't all going straight to Heaven.

    The hand-shakers will assume Jesus came down from Heaven to hang out, drink a beer, and personally take them up to everlasting life.

    I have a disabled leg and because altar rails have been chucked out I can't kneel for communion without serious help! And I hate that because it's JESUS, my Lord and my God, that I'm receiving!!! I'd prefer to throw myself on my face first and then *maybe* rise to a kneel for communion!!
