The Decline And Fall Of The American Republic
THIS is what we've come to?
A year or so back, I posted a news story concerning how the US Army had just raised their age of enlistment to such a point, that the Army actually has GRANDPARENTS undergoing Boot Camp, or "basic" as the Army call it.
Now I've come across a news article stating how my beloved Corps is specifically targeting women to fill the ranks. And I don't believe The Corps is doing such out of any great spike in social consciousness or Political Correctness. Like I said, recruiters are just trying to fill the ranks.
First, grannies... now young women. And I don't want anyone to misunderstand me. I fully realize and accept the fact that there is a place for women in the Armed Forces. God bless 'em, every one. I'm just of the opinion that combat duty isn't one of them.
Call me old-fashioned, but strapping upwards of 100 pounds of gear to your body and and heading out on those particularly nasty 20+ mile speed marches isn't something that we need subject our women to. And do I really need to bring up kicking in doors and within a matter of mere seconds, killing all the bad guys on the other side of said door? And I'm not talking video game, sanitized killing. I'm talking another human being's blood, brains and intestines all over you killing.
There are some things that women simply aren't suppose to do. The military version of a knife fight in a phone booth is one of them.
And let's be honest, women in combat is just like a blanket amnesty for illegal aliens (or for that matter, heresy within the USCCB)... technically, it doesn't exist. But the reality is a far different matter.
Here's some of the article from the International Herald-Tribune.
U.S. Marine recruiters open a new front
By Douglas Quenqua Published: April 21, 2008
The U.S. Marines are looking for a few good women.
Actually, they'll take as many as they can get. Faced with the difficulty of recruiting during a long and unpopular war, the Marines have started marketing itself to women in a concerted way for the first time. It is running ads in magazines like Shape, Self and Fitness, which appeal mainly to female readers, as well as through more mainstream outlets like "American Idol," where the message is a unisex one of patriotism rather than macho swagger. Here's a re-print of what I originally posted back in August of 2006.
The President won't come out and say it... so I will.
Young men of America - I'm speaking specifically to you, because you will be the ones who'll be the gunslingers. Your country needs you --- desperately.
Young men of America - Because of a lack of men joining, young LADIES now have to man the weapons on convoy duty (and other related operations) in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because of a lack of men joining, young LADIES are engaged in firefights. Because of a lack of men joining, young LADIES are being killed in combat. All because of a lack of men who are man enough to answer the call of duty.
Young men of America - One day when you are bouncing your grandchildren on your knee, they'll ask you what you did in the war that kept us free from terrorism. What answer will you give them? "I wanted to stay in school" --- "I had a career to worry about" --- "I was content to let your grandmother do my fighting for me" --- "I was a coward".
Young men of America... young CATHOLIC men of America - What kind of real Catholic man has a woman do his fighting for him? And if I have to hear one more Obama-supporting college student whine about The War on Terrorism... I just may go into the kill mode.
I seriously doubt if any of these pukes will ever even entertain the notion of leaving their safe, warm, and ever so protected privileged lives, and actually stepping up and serving their country.

I'm confused, Caveman. You say you are OK with female Marines. You just don't want them in combat. I'm with you there.
However, the IHT article notes that "most combat jobs are off limits" to females. So what's the problem? It does not appear that the USMC has plans to let women kick down doors and shoot bad guys.
Geee--I tried to get my grandpa a** back into uniform. They told me I was broken down, old and ugly to join back up with Army.
But I wonder--what happened to the testicles of young American men?
I'd say bring back the draft, but if we have to force our boys to defend their country--do we deserve to have one?
Thanks for making me have a dismal reflection on a beautiful spring day. ;P
Patrick,
As I stated on the post;

A good example is convoy duty. There's no way in hell that the Marine Corps is going to pull Grunts out of their assigned mission to guard convoys. So who does that leave?
The truck drivers, supply clerks, admin types, etc. To include the young ladies who are getting blown away by IED's, and caught in fire fights.

IR,
I aim to please!!! *insert evil grin here*
Women have less muscle mass than men, generally have less body weight, and have less oxygen-carrying capacity in their blood (16% less) than men. That makes them less efficient in tasks that require a lot of strenuous activity. It also makes them more prone to injury. Of course, there are exceptions, but generally, when women strive to compete with men at jobs that require a lot of strength, their careers are short-lived.
Yeah, I know. I've been called a misogynist before.
Im a female and belong to an NG Army MI Bn and deployed OIF1 and wore 2 hats as the S1 and the BC's driver, I logged over 6000 miles from Kuwait to the Iranian border in my soft sided HUMMV, no we are not gun slingers and had to pull our own security due to some AC Cdrs who did not want their 11B's to risk their lives for an MI Bn trying to gather information. We did have an AR MP unit that would pull security for us when available, guess who was in the up armored tourette a 98 1b female who did a heck of a job when we were fired upon, no were not men or trying to be, but I want to believe that I did my part so my grandchildren can live and grow in a free country.
PS.. My son an AC Army 11B coincidently deployed during the same time..
I'd love to see some real men stepping up to the plate. So the women don't have to. Yessir. I'd love to see it.
Let's not forget the psycological implications of other men in the unit seeing a woman's mutilated corpse or seriously wounded. That would certainly mess with me.
Second, and I mean no disrespect, what happens when you're all geared up and you have to take a leak? Far easier for men to take care of business. Granted I guess you could just go in your pants, but is having that much moisture and amonia on the skin for God knows how long it will be, a good thing?
Vir,
Look what happened with that Army chick who ended up in a fire fight and being captured while driving a truck.
My Army officer brother told the the Israelis tried putting women in combat units a number of years ago and soon abandoned the idea for a number of reasons.
As for letting older guys join the military - hey 40 is the new 30 for some. They got a bowflex body, right? I know some 40-somethings that could kick the shit out of someone half their age.
And I agree with you, Cavey about the women in the military meme. Let's not kid ourselve about where the social decontructionist want to take this. FAB made a good point about the "non-combat" jobs where one may find themselves in "non-combat", but nonetheless sending rounds downrange, i.e. Jessica whatserface. Oh, and let's not ignore the fact that if the enemy captures a female POW, they're going to rape her. Forever. There were rumors of that, too, with whatserface, but the Pentagon worked real hard to stifle that one.
IMHO, while women are capable of doing many jobs in the military (especially in my realm, submarines), it is immoral. Women are designed specifically to nurture life, both physiologically and psychologically. To take that part of our society, then break it and turn it into the opposite is sick. For thousands of years, it's been the women who healed us who've returned from war, both our physical and emotional wounds. Who's gonna do that if they're beside us in the foxhole?
Furthermore, men are wired to protect women. Its demoralizing enough seeing their male compadres being mutilated by war. Now, imagine how much more demoralizing it will be to see a female's mutilated and decaying corpse on some barbed wire, or burned beyond recognition body in a crashed helo.
So, if the Corps is ramping up the recruitment of women, what are they going to use them for? Is it to get all the males possible into the sandbox? That would be worth finding out...
Anna,
Believe me, no one is questioning your partiotism or sense of self-sacrifice.
But wouldn't you agree that there's something terribly wrong when a mother and son are serving in the same CZ?
PS, what in the world is an "11B"? Is that an Army designation for something specific?
11B Infantryman equivilant to MC 0311
It was a coinicidence that we deployed at the same time. I will send you a photo via your email.
But I would do it all over again despite the hardships.
Unitas:
I admit the things we take for granted, the comforts of home(and no Im not a fru-fru female nor do I look like a dude) but you know we do what we have to do when out in the field, and I found my fellow male soldiers very respectful of that.
