And To Think He Was Actually Mentioned As A Possible Next Pope
THIS is a perfect example how far we've fallen

As shocking and disgusting as this may seem... Christoph Cardinal Schönborn of Vienna has DEFENDED the homosexual "art" that is currently on display at Vienna's cathedral museum.

This isn't a joke.

As surreal as this all is... here's the article in it's entirety from Catholic World News; (Emphasis mine)
Austrian cardinal defends art exhibit
Vienna, Apr. 9, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schönborn has issued a statement defending the decision to host an art exhibit featuring homo-erotic images of Christ and the apostles at the Vienna cathedral's museum.

In response to a query from the German-language kath.net news site, Cardinal Schönborn noted that Alfred Hrdlicka, the artist whose works have provoked charges of blasphemy, is "one of Austria's most notable living artists." (And Hitler was one of Austria's most notable politicians.... your point, Your Eminence?)

Hrdlicka, the cardinal said, "has dealt with biblical subjects all his life, especially with the suffering of Christ." He noted that the controversial artist "has appealed for 'compassion' with the 'Passion.'" Cardinal Schönborn conceded that Hrdlicka "expresses this 'compassion' in a most perturbing way." The cardinal called for the removal of one work from the exhibit, responding to complaints from viewers insulted by the depiction of the Last Supper as a homosexual orgy. (He wouldn't do it on his own, 'eh?)

Cardinal Schönborn said that he gave his approval for the Hrdlicka exhibit, without knowing details about the works that would be presented in the cathedral museum, because of his respect for the artist's reputation. He explained: "In spite of the fact that he claims to be a Communist and an atheist, he nevertheless has a burning interest in the Holy Bible, and has personally admitted that he has a great longing for faith."
(Gee, that must explain why he's a Communist and an atheist, huh?)
May the wrath of Sts. Peter and Paul come down upon his head.

  4. Didn't Dante also have aline to the effect that the floors of hell are tiled with the skulls of bishops. Can you imagine what all the non-Catholics who may have been considering becomeing Catholic (forget about all the Catholics who are also scandalized) will think about the Church after seeing that homo art (it is very GRAPHIC!). What ever became of the sin of "giving bad example?" Must have gone thrown out with the tabernacles, altar rails, saintly statues, and pius devotions after Vatican 2.

  5. I think His Emminence is better known in the world of academia, not necessarily his orthodoxy. I could be wrong.

  6. It was St. John Chrysostrom (sp?) who made the comment about the floors of Hell. Regardless, it's pretty sad when one of the supposed "princes of the Church" mouths drivel like this.

  7. Come on folks. Are any of you really surprised? We are, after all, in the "Springtime of the Church."

Destroy the Mass---Destroy the Church...and the idiots will follow.
