The Feast of St. Joseph
A man of honor. Matt. 1:19
Our 3rd Annual Re-Issue of a Worthy Reminder
March 19th is the Feast of St. Joseph, one of the heroes of our Church who -- prior to the "liturgical vandalism" following Vatican II -- used to have a statue in every Catholic church and whose feast, unfortunately, gets overshadowed by the continued secularization of St. Patrick's day.
To honor him this Wednesday, take a few moments to say the following:
Litany of St. Joseph
God the Father of Heaven, have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.
God the Holy Spirit, have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy on us.
Holy Mary, pray for us.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
Noble son of the House of David, pray for us.
Husband of the Mother of God, pray for us.
Most chaste spouse, pray for us.
Guardian of the Virgin, pray for us.
Foster father of the Son of God, pray for us.
Faithful guardian of Christ, pray for us.
Head of the Holy Family, pray for us.
Joseph, chaste and just, pray for us.
Joseph, prudent and brave, pray for us.
Joseph, obedient and loyal, pray for us.
Patron of husbands, pray for us.
Patron of fathers, pray for us.
Model of workers, pray for us.
Patron of carpenters and woodworkers, pray for us.
Guardian of virgins, pray for us.
Pillar of family life, pray for us.
Comfort of the troubled, pray for us.
Hope of the sick, pray for us.
Patron of a happy death, pray for us.
Terror of evil spirits, pray for us.
Protector of the Church, pray for us.
Patron of the Universal Church, pray for us.
Because of Holy week--In the Archdiocese of Louisville, the solemnity of St. Joseph was translated to the 15th. Our parish celebrated, starting with Solemn Vespers, in english and Latin in the Parish Church. Our pastor presided, with our deacons, and two retired priests who attended in choir, and the Archbishop, who attended in choir and gave a solemn blessing at the end. Incense, chant, and a sung Litany of St. Joseph were included.
ReplyDeleteThen, we had a Parish dinner, with a traditional St. Josephs altar and food collected for the poor.
St. Joseph is the Patron of the Church in Louisville.
I think I have the answer as to exactly why San Giuseppe is getting ignored. I suspect it is because of , as I call it, his "Obedient Heart".
ReplyDeleteSan Giuseppe shows us the proper way to act when God calls us to do something. He didn't question it, he didn't analyse it, he didn't pick & chose what parts to obey. As soon as he heard what God told him to do, he did it immediately.
If you were a bunch wanting to rebel against God & destroy the Catholic Church would you wants someone that reminds you that you are being disobedient, a dissedent, rebellious against God's lawful authority, etc?
(See last Sat's post on my blog for more on St Joseph's "Odedient Heart".

I think it definitely IS time for a revival of devotion to San Giuseppe!! Altar Boy, thanks for doing your part.
VIVA SAN GIUSEPPE!!!!!
St. Joseph is Patron Saint of Canada and because his feast day has fallen this week in HOLY WEEK, it got transferred to last Saturday (March 15).
ReplyDeleteSt. Joseph is a model for all men to aspire to.
Great posting Caveman!!
Matthew,
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'd like to take credit for this posting, it was done my my co-conspirator, Former Altar Boy.
Might I just add...in my Chicago experience we traditionally wore RED on the 19th in honor of St. Joseph -- failing to do so was almost as frowned upon by the Italians in our town as not wearing green on the 17th was by the Irish.
ReplyDeleteI'm just sayin'.
