If The Brain Is The Sexiest Organ
Then what happened at Berkeley would be defined as a....
Helmet tip to The MIG Fighter

WARNING!! The sexual innuendo is rampant on this posting. If you're easily offended, I suggest you pass on this one.

Yes, yes. I'm sure that most of you have already caught wind that the City Council of Berkeley, California has just voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and "if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests."

That's right, folks... Berkeley just has a Corpsgasm.

What exactly is a Corpsgasm, you ask? In the case of the City Council of Berkeley, that's what happens when you attempt to insult the United States Marine Corps, but essentially accomplish nothing. A form of mental masturbation, if you will.

Specifically - even though lots of thought went into this snub... nothing was really accomplished except that the CC of Berkeley pointlessly writhed about and made lots of noise, felt REALLY good about themselves, and in general just made a big ol' mess.

That's a Corpsgasm.

But there is a silver lining to this particularly black cloud... a lil' something I like to call Legislative Artificial Insemination on behalf of The Marine Corps*. (Emphasis mine)

DeMint to Berkeley: Support Our Marines or Lose Federal Funds

January 31st, 2008 - Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) released the following statement in response to the decision by the City Council of Berkeley, California to evict the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station from the city.

“This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families. The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can’t show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts. I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps.”
*The Corps was able to indirectly screw-over Berkeley... but we never really got to enjoy it.

  1. I've got an amendment to propose for DeMint's legislation. Use the money that would go to Berkeley & use it to put up arrows pointing to the town, so that when the attack on the Left Coast finally comes they know where to attack.

& afterwords, remind Berkeley that technically, their vote was to suceed from the US so they can no longer EXPECT US TO DEFEND THEM.

DeMint is right: "The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic." but use your own dime.

  2. Dear Vir,

I grew up in the City of Berkeley in the 50's. You might be interested to know that the City Council at the time had a majority of Republican members (3 out of 5). While there always has been a beatnik element, the place really went berserk in the late 60's, after 18 year old college students were given the right to vote.

What you have here is a bunch of aging hippies engaged in a form of group-think. I think "mental masturbation" sums it up real good.

I don't know. I really enjoyed hearing a US Senator stick up for our fighting men. Gave me a big smile.

  4. Ooh rah, Cavey - I ranted on this story yesterday on my blog, too. When I think of the long, hard hours my hubby put in as a recruiter for his Corps, all the unsung heroics of helping his kids finish high school, fathering and mentoring fatherless young men...oh yeah. Let me know when Code Pink decides to start up a chapter in Baghdad and see how long it lasts.

    Grrrrr....

  5. What else can you expect from the People's Republic of Berkley? Or as David Horowitz callled it "Berzerkerly."
