"The First Wetbacks Were Jesus, Mary, and Joseph"
So saith the Cardinal of Guatemala City

Here's some of the article from Spero News: (emphasis mine)

In his homily on December 30, Cardinal Quezada Toruño recalled the life of Jesus and what he described as "the first emigration in the New Testament: the flight of the Holy Family from Bethlehem to Egypt" in order to express his concern for fellow Guatemalans who have left for the United States. "The first wetbacks were St. Joseph, the Virgin Mary and Jesus. They had no choice but to bundle up their things, without taking recourse of a visa, because they certainly would not have been given one", said the cardinal.

"Also, this year, 23,000 Guatemalans - 20 times the number who fit within the Cathedral - have been deported, sometimes even suffering assaults upon their human rights, while some 100,000 fellow citizens have crossed the border towards the United States", added the cardinal.
First off, there would be no need for a visa. Palestine and Egypt were both part of the Roman Empire. And St. Joseph was taking his family to Egypt for protection from persecution in The Holy Land, unlike the 100,000 Guatemalans who have broken the laws of the United States primarily for financial gain. I don't seem to recall anywhere in the Gospels, St. Joseph breaking the law. Or does the good Cardinal really expect us to believe that said 100,000 Guatemalan law-breakers are all fleeing political persecution. Could it be that they just coming here taking jobs away from our own law-abiding citizens? If they really are fleeing political persecution, then claim political refugee status. But they won't, because they aren't. So the "The Holy Family didn't have a visa" argument is just... well... absurd at best; purposefully misleading at worst.

And don't give me any of that myth about how "illegals are doing the jobs that Americans won't". Without fail, every construction site I go by have the vehicles of the construction workers adorned with Mexican, Honduran and Guatemalan flags. I guess all those unemployed AMERICAN roofers, framers, masons, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, etc, are just figments of my imagination. And I guess that my brother-in-law (a contractor) who is going out of business due to being undercut by Central American illegals... well, that's just a figment of my imagination, too.

But back to how the Holy Family were "the first wetbacks"... of the two groups (The Holy Family and illegals aliens); one of the two was a fulfillment of biblical prophesy, the other are in a state of mortal sin.

You'd think a Prince of The Church would know the difference. Or is he just pandering to his audience? Hmmm... looks like The Theology of Victimization rears it's ugly head yet again.

  2. Yes, I agree. "Illegals are doing the jobs that Americans won't" is an incomplete sentence.

The complete sentence would read something like this ~ Illegals are doing the jobs that Americans won't do for the paltry wages dishonest employers pay, usually without any benefits and often "under the table" thus breaking multiple laws and doing incalculable harm.

It is unfortunate that this Cardinal chose to pander to his audience, and in so doing denigrated and distracted attention from the story of the Holy Family

  4. I follow you right up to the point where you say, "The other are in a state of mortal sin." Since you've gone that far, perhaps you won't mind telling us a) what the sin is and b)how this information came to you.

With Padre Pio dead these forty years it's heartening to think that that a successor is being groomed.

  5. It's amazing how retards like this can be made priests, let alone Bishops. It's the new slave trade.

Comparing the Holy Family to people who break and enter into our country, steal our SSN's and our jobs is more vulgar and more offensive than liberals have ever accused non-liberals of doing.

  6. Lee,
The words "a state of mortal sin" are highlighted for a reason. Just click on the link provided.

And what does St Poi have to do with this... other than he's another Catholic who had the bad manners of telling the truth?

  7. OK, I read your post about why illegals are in a state of mortal sin.

First of all, it's always inbounds to say that this or that act involves grave matter as a matter of principle. But I have never known of any responsible person in the Church to say of anyone, including pornographers and abortionists, that they are in a state of mortal sin. If someone were to say that, he is no longer judging acts, but persons. Confessors, such as Padre Pio or St. John Vianney, may say that to a penitent because of a special grace of the Holy Spirit for the spiritual welware of that person, but other than that, it isn't done..

And Bishops or pastors may say of politicians or aborionists, for example, that what they are doing is gravely sinful, but they would NEVER say that those politicicans or abortionsists are in a state of mortal sin, because that would be to judge another persons soul. Not only is that not their job, but it would be a sin in itself ("Judge not lest ye be judged"). I can't think of any faster way to find oneself suddenly on the outside looking in than by indulging that tendency. It is simply something that you cannot know without a special grace, and if the Holy Spirit reveals it to you, then your comments should be addressed to the sinner in question and no one else.

Even though the seventh and eighth commandments forbid lying and stealing, transgressions against them do not always involve grave matter. Stealing a candy bar and stealing a billion dollars are both against the seventh commandment, but one involves grave matter and the other does not. We use the phrase stealing a job, but the person's job is not really a possession in the sense that his house or car is. He does not have title to it. His employment is strictly at the will of his employer, who may very well let him go for all kinds of reasons, including being able to find someone to do it for less.

I doubt very much that you would be able to find a moral theologian of any stripe who would say that any of the acts you describe involve grave matter whose commission would put the person in jeopardy of losing his eternal soul.

This is not a hostile post, btw, but a friendly comment that I can't think of any quicker way to find oneself in real spiritual trouble than by judging anyone's actual spiritual condition, much less broadcasting those thoughts to the world. It's a dangerous, dangerous business. MHO

  8. Sounds like this Cardinal & my pastor took their homilies from the same source.

I won't go into all that he said that was wacko about Mary & Joseph.

& they do know better. They "LIED" for a political agenda.

On the other hand, there are a few priests out there that are getting things right.

I was at a different parish for Mass on New Year's Day. & the homily was on a topic dear to our Cavey's heart: "Our Lady of Akita".

He started by pointing out how hard hitting the messages were.
He talked about the fact that the messages were approved by Cardinal Ratzinger (now Papa Benedetto).

Then he went on to share parts of the messages, with some emphasis on the coming chastisement. & how some of the prophecies have begun to come true.

The whole thing can be heard here: http://stmaryedbq.org/homilies.html

  9. Lee,
Thanks for you thoughtful post. But I stand by what I say.

It's real simple... if The Church deems action A,B and C (under certain conditions) to be mortal sins, and if any given individual or group of individuals act upon acts A, B and C... then common sense demands that they are in a state of mortal sin. That's not a hard one to figure out.

And please keep in mind that the Spiritual Works of Mercy DEMAND that I "broadcasting those thoughts to the world", as you put it.

    Remember
    1. Admonish the sinner.
    2. Instruct the ignorant.

If I didn't point out and/or correct sin to it's face... then what kind of Catholic would I be? The time for wishy-washy, "I don't want to hurt anyones feelings" are over. For the sake of their souls, I say what I say.

After all, Lee. Don't you love your fellow man enough to try and save his soul? Even if it does mean hurting his feelings, or you running the risk of someone labeling you?

Turning a blind eye to sin is dangerous, dangerous business. MHO

  10. Left wing nonsense is the same in any language!Unfortunately, the only people who believe in it anymore appear to count a great number of Catholic prelates amongst their number.

Keep up the good work and a happy new year

  11. Just to be perfectly clear: The Magisterium on Mortal Sin

While a bishop or cardinal should bloody bedamned well KNOW what the grave sins are, the same may not be true of every illegal immigrant here to help drive prices down.
