And I Mean This Quite Literally...
What in the HELL is this!!??
Is it an extra-terrestrial being floating down from it's spaceship? Could it be the latest gore-covered monster from the mind of horror film-maker Wes Craven? Is it a nightmare version of a decaying dead body?
All three went through my mind when I first saw it. But hold on to your hats, fellow Bloglodytes....
From the Diocese of Belfort-Montbéliard, France, I give to you... honest to God... the 12th Station of The Cross. Wait 'till you see the rest of 'em.
Here's the AltaVista Babel-Fish translation page.
To retain at least a semblance of Catholicism, here's what Sacred Art is suppose to look like.

Caveman, Paramedicgirl has a great reference from Mediator Dei about "art" like this.
It's up on her blog for Saturday Jan 12.
Worth a look--and when I get some computer skills I'm going to send it to some parishes and a Friary of the Conventual Franciscans I know.
Ahhhh....the French. Inspiring crappy Goth-artists the world over.
It would seem that the "Eldest Daughter of the Church" has entered her surly teenage years. And I thought she did that during the Revolution.
Hmmm ... a Station to look at and walk away from.
FRANCE says it all...
Exactly, Subvet. Its really sick. If a Satanic cultist didn't make it, I'm sure Satan must have inspired it. What possible positive affect could this thing have?!?
I have to agree with Subvet on this one...that just looks like some Satanic cultist painted it!
How the heck would I explain this to my nine year old daughter? This image might terrify her, not an emotion that I want her to feel while viewing religious artwork.
The artist has two problems: first, he/she is a lousy artist; second, he/she is probably mentally ill. There is no solution to the first problem. I can prescribe medications that may help the latter. As for the ecclesiastics who okayed the public display of this kind of sick material ... defrock them and put them in the stocks.
Why is it that the only one that looked like anything was the one where He was naked? Cavey, you need to make a trip to France and straighten some people out.
I could only get past the 1st 3 stations before I felt a profound wave of disgust coming on.
INFAMIA, DISGRAZIA, those are the clea Italiano words I can use to describe them. I won't go ionto the words that would require me to give this comment an R rating. But I suspect Cavey has used a few of the English equivelents himself!
I went and looked--once my eyes stop bleeding I'll be better.
Mom--not only did the only one that looked like anything was when he was naked, it looked like a little boy.
Sick
