"I fault the use of Latin as partly responsible for the rise and success of Hitler ..."
And other last-gasps against Summorum Pontificum
Helmet tip to my buddy, Matthew

From RenewAmerica.com, here's just a bit...

Priests' opposing views on Latin Mass

In recent parish bulletins, Father J. Patrick Wissman, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Catherine of Siena Mission in Bolivar, Mo., lashed out at Pope Benedict's motu proprio Summorum Pontificum.

Father Wissman wrote, in part:

'The Pope seems to be out of touch with the ordinary church. He seems to be acting in good will, but giving into the 'letter writers' who have been complaining for years, he will create a shadow church and cause great divisions in every diocese. Such will be that when churches are built, they would have to accommodate both rites and seminarians would have to take courses in Latin. During many centuries seminarians have fallen through the cracks and not been able to reach the goal of the priesthood because Latin was too difficult for them. This was a scandal! To return to such a course would be lunacy!

'The nature of the language we worship in is crucial. Worship language must be immediate...namely, not translated in the head - Latin would speak to the intellect at best and that is not good enough. The language of worship must speak to the heart as well as the head.

'The gospel is meant to enlighten and challenge us! It is my opinion that the use of Latin should have been done away with hundreds of years ago. This is one of the things that Martin Luther was right about. After WWII Christians worldwide shook their heads in sober sadness and declared that Christianity had failed in Europe because it had let Hitler and his hateful and mad ways to succeed. Some very holy people said: 'No, Christianity was just never tried.' I fault the use of Latin as partly responsible for the rise and success of Hitler and his neo-pagan mythology which was obviously the religion he was supporting and that actually managed to capture the German imagination. I say the people, because of Latin never were confronted by the gospel. The Mass and the sacraments never really reached down deep into the soul. There are some notable exceptions of priests and laity and some very heroic ones as well as Protestant theologians who confronted the lies of Hitler - of course, they were gotten rid of...."

How do you respond to someone so absolutely out of touch with theology and history? Yet again, individuals such as him prove Our Lady of Akita right.

My next question.... what's his bishop going to do to confront this blatant clarion call to rebellion.

  1. God bless him for staying faithful to his priestly vocation all these years. But he is seriously misinformed about the Church.
Somewhere along the line his mind was warped by a anti-tradition agenda.
It makes you wonder if he ever actually read the documents of Vatican II. He should do so before spewing forth his vile.

Meanwhile, if a picture is worth a thousand words, what about all these:

  2. Hmmmm....I gueass all the priests martyed in the Nazi Death Camps was just a misunderstanding--they thought they were prebyterians, not presbyters?

there some kinda rule--The first person to bring up Hitler loses the argument.

  3. Well it is quite ridiculous to blame Hitler on Latin! I'll give you that.

However I see no "blatant clarion call to rebellion" here. This priest was expressing his opinion and last time I checked we were still permitted to do that. He wasn't expressing an opinion contrary to defined dogma. He was expressing his opinion on a non-infallible decision of the Holy Father. I didn't see anything to suggest that he is going to somehow go and protest and physically impede people who desire to attend the Tridentine Mass from doing so. He merely stated that he isn't a fan of Latin in the Liturgy. You may certainly disagree with his view. You may think it a God-awful shame that he feels that way. But to impugn his priesthood simply because you disagree is most definitely unchristian.

  4. Chuckie,
A priest friend of mine checked a publication called "The Kennedy something-or-other" that lists every single priest in the United Staes.

Guess what? These isn't a "Fr. Charles Ledderer" listed.

That makes you a deceptive liar. As I've stated before, you're just a fraud.... and now the whole world knows it.

Know that I will not allow you to use this blog as a soapbox for you to sprew forth your garage.

All further comments from you will be deleted without even so much as being read.

You're nothing more than a miserable wretch who masqurades behind the Roman Collar of a Catholic priest. *shaking head in disgust*

  5. Bruce,
Thanks for the tip on the website (http://www.sacredheartbolivar.org/FrPat.htm). If he posted all those pictures of himself on is parish website, I see Ireal ego problem. In fact, I'm even troubled if he let someone else post them. But any pastor or priest that keeps a photo, much less posts it on the Internet, of himself with no Roman collar but a shirt opened several buttons tells me pretty much where he's coming from.

  7. What planet is Father Wissman from? God help his parishioners if he spews that misinformed garbage into their heads every Sunday.

Oh, Cavey, if you Google Charles Lederer (note that one "d" is dropped) you will find he is a deceased writer of American films as well as being a director.. Methinks someone is acting the part here.

  8. I realize that much has been made of the fact that Hitler was brought up Catholic but I thought that Germany itself was a mainly Protestant country.

  9. Deb,
hitler wasn't even "raised" Catholic. The only Sacrament he ever rvd, was baptism. As a teen, he renounced his Catholicism, and waded deeper and deeper into Nordic Paganism.

  11. Deb--

Hitler was an ethnically German citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

After WWI I believe he was an austrian citizen, who then moved to Bavaria, and becam a german citizen. Although I have never seen his actual naturalization documented.

Liberals kill me. When their latest stupid position is finally starting to circle the drain they always drag in the Nazis. It's getting so very old and boring...
